How to Have Understanding
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10, NASB95)We come again to one of Solomon’s favorite words, Understanding. The preacher has taught us so much about the value of understanding, but now he tells us what understanding truly is: the knowledge of the Holy One.If understanding was knowledge of financial markets, biological secrets, engineering formulas, or psychological theories, then understanding would be out of the reach of most of us. Few of us could get the education, even if we had the mental acumen, to lead us to this kind of understanding. But understanding is the knowledge of the Holy One, who is revealed generally in creation and specifically in Scripture. His revelation is so full that even with general revelation we are “without excuse.” With Jesus, however, we have the full image of the glory of God.We can have understanding, because we can have the knowledge of the Holy One!In His Grace,Dr. Randy White
